Born in Tokyo in Dec. 27 1974 he could have landed in a job of digital effect and animation were he would have been far from the lime light of camera and celebrities but his desire and luck landed him a role in the 2006 blockbuster TV show "Heroes" (NBC, 2006). Once he started he became the latest sensation of the American Primetime TV shows.

Masi Ok migrated to Los Angeles at the age of 6 and passed out of the local Harvard-Westlake School in 1992. In his early days Oka was lot more fascinated by computers than other things. He loved programming and other geeky stuffs. Masi Oka was also featured in the 1987 issue of Time magazine with other half a dozen children under a feature called "Those Asian-American whiz kids". But his appearance in the Magazine was only co-incidence because the camera person was a family friend. But his IQ level of 180 could have justified his inclusion in the photograph.

Once Oka finished his BS in Computers from Brown University in 1997 he was thrown up with lots of job offers. He was brave enough to turn down a good programming job at Microsoft and joined an entry level job with a visual effects company called Industrial Light and Magic in California. After his training of almost 18 months he started working in some major production like " Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace" (1999) and many different other live action and comedy shows. But he got his major career boost when he started his work as digital programmer on Wolfgang Petersen’s shipwreck thriller, “The Perfect Storm” (2000).In this project he created some stunning water affects that promoted him ahead off all the digital effect programmer of that time. His works in ILM helped him boost his career and he later found work in movies like "Pirate of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest” which released in 2006

In 2001 after a good two years in ILM he decided to move to Los Angeles. No one knew his reason for this move, but the love for acting had pulled this special effect creator to Hollywood. After doing some industrial video he received his Screen Actors Guild card and even got some small parts in popular series like Reba (2001), Scrubs (2001), House of the Dead (2005).

Masi Oka got his major boost only in 2006 when he was officially nominated for the popular series "Heroes". This changed the life of Masi Oka. His brilliant on screen presence and childish smile won heart of millions of Americans. He tapped into his role better than anyone else and his acting was appraised even by those who don’t prefer the series.

From a whiz kid to Digital effects producer to an actor he showed all the characteristics he obtained. He showed his audience a wide range of acting the viewers didn’t even expect. Though Oka worked continuously for his series "Hero" and even continued his work with ILM. He telecommuted and worked from Los Angeles. He managed to take out certain hours in a day to work on his projects. In an interview he was quoted saying that he loved acting as well as programming and programming helped him in his acting career. He always loved to work in front of the camera as well as behind it.
